My Cat Versus the Invisible Enemy - Find Out What Happened!
Over many years of owning pets, I have encountered various anecdotes and adventures. However, I suspect that few of them compare to the one I want to tell today. It concerns my house cat, whom I began to call the “Invisibility Warrior” when I first noticed unusual behavior.
It started about a year ago. Observing the daily routines of my house dog and cat, I noticed that the cat had started to exhibit strange behavior. Moreover, it started precisely when I connected with my current partner, who is a vet. From time to time, my house cat would jump on the bed, spin around violently, and appear to be attacking something that I simply could not see.
Initially, I thought it was just typical fun for house cats - familiar to me from observing other such pets. But over time, this seemed increasingly unusual to me. Is it possible that my cat sees something that I do not perceive? I turned into a detective, trying to discover what secret lay behind these mysterious animal behaviors. At first, I suspected it could be a matter of fumes from new cleaning agents we were using at home.
However, we gave up these products, and my house cat still “attacked” the invisible enemy. The decision to put him through professional tests was stressful - being a homebody, my cat was not a fan of visits to the vet. Finally, after many attempts and examinations, we managed to discover the cause: our clean, carved coffee table caused light reflections in such a way that our cat saw his reflection in it. For him, it was something completely new - an invisible enemy to defeat.
This experience made me realize how much more we have yet to discover about our pets and their complex perceptions of the world. It is known that cats are very alert and agile animals, but I never suspected that my pet could engage in such a lively fight with his reflection. This anecdote also reminds me of the importance of taking care of our pets’ environment - even the smallest changes can impact their behavior in an unpredictable way. We are currently trying to pay more attention to the way light bounces off different surfaces at home to provide as much peace for our cat as possible.
