Inflation and its impact on the accessibility of goods and services
Inflation growth affects the accessibility of goods and services
In recent months, we have observed a growing level of inflation in Poland. The increase in prices of consumer goods and services is noticeable in citizens’ daily lives. It is estimated that inflation has increased by 170 thousand basis points in the last year, which translates into higher expenses for consumers. The decreased accessibility of some goods and services is particularly noticeable in large cities, where living costs are rising at a fast pace.
Transport infrastructure development - metro
Inflation also affects the costs of investments, such as the expansion and modernization of transportation infrastructure. An example is the construction of new metro lines, which costs significantly more than a few years ago. The increase in construction materials, wages, and executing services causes the expansion of the metro to become increasingly difficult to implement. This, in turn, affects the limitations of public transportation accessibility for citizens, making daily life more difficult.
Inflation and healthcare
The impact of inflation can also be observed in the healthcare sector. The rise in prices of medicines, medical equipment, and medical services means that healthcare is becoming less accessible to many patients. In situations where healthcare costs are rising, more and more people must forego necessary diagnostic tests or treatment. Long-term inflation can also affect the accessibility of qualified medical personnel, as low salaries in the health sector can discourage doctors and nurses from working in the country.
Prospects and measures against inflation
To mitigate the negative effects of inflation, the government and central bank should implement appropriate measures to stabilize the economy. First and foremost, it is necessary to monitor and control the level of inflation and introduce support programs for sectors most affected by the increase in prices. These actions aim to limit the negative impact of inflation on the accessibility of goods and services and improve citizens’ living conditions. At the same time, for a long-term solution, there is a need to aim for a stable economic environment and a reduction of inflation growth.
